Modano to Finish Career in Hockeytown, USA

Newest Red Wing

Michigan-born Mike Modano has signed a one year, 1.25 mil deal with the Detroit Red Wings. He will wear no. 90 as his usual no. 9 belongs to Gordie Howe. As a Wings fan I couldn't be more excited about this. He's the most prolific American scorer in NHL history and just a stand up guy. You're not an American if you don't like Mike Modano. Whenever Modano gets a point, I'm slugging a bud heavy. Hopefully that will be at least 50 throughout the season and another 10 in the playoffs on the way to lifting his second cup.

Head Coach Mike Babcock has said that Modano will center Jiri Hudler and Danny Cleary on the third line and be on the second powerplay. That third line should be good for at least 60 goals, giving the Wings the offensive depth that they did not have last year. He fits in perfectly with the puck-possession style the Wings run and should provide valuable leadership come playoff time. The Wings have had great success bringing in veterans for one last season (Igor Larionov in '03 & Dallas Drake in '08) so it wouldn't surprise me to see Lidstrom pass Modano the cup next June. Welcome to Hockeytown, Mike.
